Native Peoples magazine to publish article

I have signed a contract to write an article about Xauían, the Tiwa war captain who led the initial Pueblo resistance to the Coronado expedition. It is scheduled to be published in the Jan/Feb 2014 issue of Native Peoples, a highly respected and well-known magazine that covers our nation's indigenous people.
The article will also be a tie-in for Winter of the Metal People because Xauían figures so prominently in the book.
The Native Peoples article will run in the magazine's "History" series.
The editor explained that the article will take a look at the life and times of the Pueblo leader Xauian of the 16th century.
"While many people are familiar with 1680 Pueblo Revolt leader Po'Pay," the editor said, "few know of Xauían, a major figure caught up in the 1540 war with the Coronado expedition to New Mexico. As an unyielding leader of his people, he was well-known to the Spanish, who gave him the nickname Juan Alemán."
