I'm starting to think I could have done better with the Winter of the Metal People subtitle, which is "The untold story of America's first Indian war."
Some people, including some Indian managers of Indian gift shops, think the book is about the Pueblo Revolt. No, that occurred 140 years later. This is another indication of how little-known the Tiguex War is, even in the Southwest.
The book needs to be identified more with the Coronado expedition of 1540 and the Tiguex War he fought against the Puebloan tribes near Albuquerque, New Mexico. That probably would have been better served if the subtitle had been "Coronado and America's first Indian war."
Now I think of it.
